Charlotte's introduction to university life was to create a 10 minute solo performance. Charlotte chose to create a weird and wonderful piece based an emotional journey having watched someone survive a life-threatening illness. Whilst the text was based on raw emotion, it was fragmented. Initially key words were written down, scattered over a surface and selected using a pendulum, this created an odd combination of words in some cased, but also stunning imagery. The fragmentation of the text lent itself to an equally fragmented visual display. The character's objective was to carry out a series of tasks, restricted by the frame (see pictures) and she often got distracted by another task.
Some of these tasks were things like: wrapping tape around the frame, followed by string, hanging some hooks which were then used to hold other props, cleaning amongst others. At the start of the piece all props were on Charlotte's body and as the piece progressed, were put on display in some way.
This was a really fun piece to develop and highlighted the emotional restriction and repression of the initial journey. Throughout the piece, the character was completely absorbed in her mental and physical business as a way to keep on top of her emotions.
